The province announced the relevant information on the Kosis website on December 26 and said that the number of businesses and employees has increased by 5.6 percent (7,259) and 3.8 percent (22,020) compared with the last year, respectively.

In particular, the increase rate in number of businesses of Jeonbuk was the highest nationwide, followed by Gyeongnam (4.9 percent) and Incheon (4.6 percent). The national average is 3.8 percent.

The province also recorded the increase in number of employees of 3.8 percent, surpassing the national average rate of 2.6 percent.

The entire industries experienced increases in the number of businesses; particularly the number of businesses in the transportation industry has increased by 19.2 percent to 142,000 businesses. It is because the quick service, which has been an illegal so far, was recognized as the formal business by the government.

Transportation (10.4 percent) and construction (3.4 percent) industries have grown by 1.2 percent and 0.1 percent respectively in comparison with last year, while wholesale and retail (27.2 percent) and educational (5.5 percent) industries posted a decrease between 0.2 to 0.5 percent.

Among the cities and districts within the province, Jeonju has the biggest number of businesses (49,112, 36.1 percent), followed by Iksan (21,158, 15.6 percent) and Gunsan (20,990, 15.4 percent).

“We plan to publish reports and distribute them to various cities, districts and relevant authorities and hope that they will become the foundation of the policy making process, and upload them on the province’s website for local residents and authorities,” said a Jeonbuk official.
