(GUNSAN = Newsis) Gunsan Regional Maritime Affairs and Port Administration announced on February 11 that it is pushing ahead the construction of the flood barrier at Chungcheongnam-do Janghang Port to reduce the impact of the storm surge.

The project, which is one of the “Aramir project” by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, aims to build a 3,589m flood barrier, and the city is currently undergoing working design process.

The project is expected to cost a total of KRW 23 billion, and will commence the construction in May and will be completed by 2017. The budget for the project in 2014 is KRW 1.7 billion.

“Once the barrier is constructed, it will reduce the scale of damage by storm surge in the region and stabilize the living environment for local residents. Also, it can be used as a local landmark and attract tourists from other regions,” said Kim Hyeung-Dae, Administrator of Gunsan Regional Maritime Affairs and Port Administration.
