(BUAN=NEWSIS) The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs selected Buan, North Jeolla Province, to build an agricultural products processing center, according to the County on August 5.

Buan will invest KRW 3.4 billion in 2880 ㎡ of Byeonsan Nonghyup from early next year to establish an agricultural products processing facility (1563 ㎡) including a goods station and cold storage.

Byeonsan-myeon produces high quality onions and accounts for 20 percent of the onion production in Buan. However, Byeonsan has a hard time expanding participating farmers due to its lack of selection and storage capacity.

The County hopes the establishment of an agricultural products processing center will stabilize supply and demand and revitalize the agricultural economy by systematizing the farmers in Southwest region including Sangseo-myeon, Gyehwa-myeon and Haseo-myeon.

"The agricultural products processing center will reduce the complex stages in processing agricultural goods by transferring the existing system to an integrated marketing system. Producers can save processing cost and consumers can buy high quality agricultural goods at a reasonable price. Eventually, this will become a big turning point for the agricultural development in Buan,” said a County official.
