According to Yonhap News,

(ULSAN=Yonhap News) On July 8, UNIST said it will support "Data Voucher" in the scale of KRW 1.2 billion to 34 SMEs in Ulsan.

With the voucher, companies are able to purchase data of their choice or receive AI development services.

They can receive up to KRW 18 million per case for data purchase, while up to KRW 70 million per case for AI development.

It is one of the data voucher support programs run by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Its purpose is development of SMEs and startups and revitalization of the data industry.

The 4th Industrial Revolution Research Center of UNIST was selected as an entity to carry out this program in May, assigned with strengthening major industries in the region and developing new industries including healthcare and finance.

Accordingly, the Research Center gave tasks and reviewed the results of 41 companies applied for the data voucher support program, and selected 34 tasks in the end.

The selected tasks included ▲ Develop AI to optimize the molding process in auto manufacturing ▲ Develop AI to assist safe sailing and anchoring of a ship▲ Develop AI to discover business items in Donggu, Ulsan ▲ Seek ways to reinvigorate Ulsan tourism by utilizing foot traffic data. As shown, they are mostly related with revolution of manufacturing and logistics and discovery of new industries.

A professor in charge of the program said, "Unlike large corporations responding to the fourth industrial revolution through their big data and AI capabilities, SMEs are faced with difficulties in data-based innovation," adding that "This program is expected to stimulate data utilization not only in Ulsan but also in other regions across the nation, and contribute to finding ways to boost data economy."
