According to Yonhap News,

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) announced on June 30 that it embarked on demonstration to commercialize hydrogen fuel cell powered ships in cooperation with Ulsan Metropolitan City.

Specifically, there will be a demonstration of driving vessels propelled by hydrogen fuel cells and a demonstration of setting up a hydrogen charging station for hydrogen fuel cell-propelled ships.

The demonstration of applying the hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems is to load a power pack of fuel cell developed by local technology to two small vessels, which will lay the groundwork to verify safety and prepare safety standards necessary for issuing approval. Currently, because there is no applicable safety standard necessary to approve hydrogen fuel cell propelled ships, they cannot be manufactured and operated.

The demonstration of building a hydrogen charging station is to expand those subject to hydrogen charging from vehicles, as currently allowed under the existing laws, to include small vessels.
