According to Yonhap News,

Ulsan city said on June 14 that it will overhaul the intercity bus routes by utilizing big data in transportation by the second half of this year.

According to its plan, the city will reorganize the bus routes based on a range of information, such as data of residents' transportation cards, foot traffic data collected by mobile carriers, and accumulated records of the current bus service.

As of now, Ulsan city is running 183 routes served by 926 buses daily. Four routes in the most used 5 lines are connecting Jung-gu, Nam-gu and Dong-gu. The most frequent bus is the 401 bus, with the number of daily passenger recording 9,427 on average. About 48.1% (5,032) of passengers getting on the bus and 35.7% (4,239) off the bus are found to be those about to transfer.

By reflecting these findings and analyzing an array of data collected from residents' transportation cards and mobile phones to find out the busiest bus stop and foot traffic, Ulsan will overhaul the intercity bus routes in a full swing for the first time since it was elevated to a metropolitan city.

Ulsan also plans to launch a bus-route-search website where people can grasp the difference between the old and new bus routes with ease.
