A total of 101.4 billion won will be injected into building an 118,800 square meter-industrial-academic convergence complex by 2016.

The convergence complex project is led by University of Ulsan and participated by Ulsan-si (City), Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Ulsan College, Ulsan Technopark (TP) and Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (KICC).

University of Ulsan will relocate its campus for materials science and engineering, management, mechatronics and chemistry to the convergence complex, while Ulsan College chemical engineering (night school) to the complex.

UNIST will operate master’s or doctoral programs on management, design and industrial technology in a bid to cater to specific needs of companies.

Ulsan TP and KICC will build a corporate research center where 80 research groups will be located to support the development of innovative technologies and products.

“The industrial-academic convergence complex will enable research groups and small-and-medium enterprises to tap 1,000 technology professionals,” said an Ulsan-si official.
