According to Yonhap News,

(Ulsan = Yonhap News) Reporter Chang Young-eun

Ulju County sent a delegation to the United States yesterday to promote pears produced in Ulsan.

The county is sending delegations to major U.S. cities every year since 2002 to promote pear exports.

Pear exports to overseas markets have been continued for 14 years since 1998, according to Ulju.

The county explained that U.S. consumers enjoy Ulsan pears that have a high sweetness.

Following its exports of 14 tons to Los Angeles August, Ulju plans to export pears by the end of the year.

The county exported 344 tons of pears last year, which only accounted for less than its target of 800 tons due to breakout of pear scab.

Ulju may face another difficulty as China started exporting their products to the United States this year.

The target is to export 700 tons this year, but the forecast is unclear.

The county has 149 exporting farmers producing 2,640 tons of pears from 133 ha of farmland.

Total number of pear farmers reaches 1,162 and produces 15,525 tons of pears annually.
