Daejeon City Invests KRW 50 Bn in City Regeneration Project

(DAEJEON=NEWSIS) Daejeon City Mayor Kwon Sun-taik held a press conference on January 5 and announced that the city has been selected for the 2016 economy-based city regeneration project organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

The city will receive KRW 25 billion of national expenses for the next six years. The city will also use KRW 2.5 billion of its expenses to revamp the old downtown. A total of KRW 50 billion will be invested in the city regeneration project.

The city aims to build a walkable and legible city by establishing crosswalks around the old government office of South Chungcheong Province and Jungangno and installing elevators and escalators connecting underground shopping areas and buildings.

"What is important is how to develop the area around Daejeon Station, old government office South Chungcheong Province and Jungangno. We will strive to carry out the city regeneration project as planned," said Kwon.
