Daejeon Roll up Sleeves to Attract Medical Tourists

(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) Daejeon Metropolitan City's active marketing campaigns to attract Chinese medical tourists, particularly centering on young travelers, is beginning to pay off.

Daejeon held events to promote the city's medical tourism in cooperation with the Daejeon International Marketing Enterprise and local medical institutions for youth organizations, local broadcasters, and travel agencies in China's three provinces from October 31 to November 8, 2016.

At events held between November 1 to November 4 in Weihai City and Chengdu City, Daejeon presented its customized tour packages such as medical tour camps, corporate incentive medical tours, wellness tours for seniors as well as other tourist attractions to around 250 participants.




Through the marketing event, the city succeeded in attracting 500 medical tourists who will travel during the winter vacation from December to February next year.

Deajeon also agreed to hold academic conferences and exchange medical staffs at a meeting with a local hospital and forged partnership with the largest travel agency in the region.

So far this year, a total of around 500 medical tourists have visited Daejeon through the city's four rounds of marketing campaigns.

"We presented Daejeon's advanced medical technology, science and culture through the campaign," a city official said. He added that the city will step up its efforts to attract more medical tourists from other countries including Russia by developing tourism tailored for each countries.
