According to Yonhap News,

(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) A biotechnology professor at South Korea's most prestigious engineering university has been named an international fellow at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the country's biggest scientific and research organization, the professor's university said Thursday.

Professor Lee Sang-yup of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has also been appointed honorary professor at CAS's Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, KAIST said in a statement.

Lee "has made significant academic achievements in the area of systems metabolic engineering, which produces useful chemicals from microorganisms," the statement said.

"Not only did he develop the first and best source technology in that field, but also came out with processes for the production of biofuel and environmentally-friendly chemicals," it said.

Established in 1949, the Chinese Academy of Sciences is China's most notable scientific think tank and academic governing organization.
