According to Yonhap News,
(Daejeon=Yonhap News) On January 26, the ROK Naval Logistics Command and Daejeon Technopark signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on technology exchange and cooperation.
Based on the MoU, the two parties will work with each other on the localization of parts for the Navy's vessels and aircraft, and on the development of maintenance technology.
As only a small amount of a wide variety of parts are needed for the Navy's vessels and aircraft, there had been difficulty in securing necessary products due to high prices and delay in procurement time.
If the two parties succeed in localizing the parts and developing maintenance technology, the Navy will be able to replace expensive foreign products, and thereby reduce the national defense budget.
Local defense industry companies will bw encouraged to participate in the effort by exchanging technology and data.
