Daejeon City is undertaking a project tentatively named "D Maker Startup Platform Establishment Project," to transform the old Metropolitan Government Building into a startup platform.

On April 4, the city announced it will use KRW 5 billion of municipal and national funding to build a MakerSpace, startup information center, academy, childcare facility and more as part of the project by 2022.

The platform will provide systematic and comprehensive support for startups from innovative ideation to commercialization and initial stabilization.

The MakerSpace is where startups can go to turn their creative ideas into real products using the facility's 3D printer and digital machine tools.

To achieve this, the city plans to apply for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups(MSS)'s MakerSpace Building Project.

Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Director Han Sun-hee said, "We plan to build facilities related to startups by 2019 and establish towns by 2022."
