According to Yonhap News,

The city of Daejeon and a couple of community districts (Seogu, Youseonggu and Daedeokgu) signed an MOU on Jun. 17 for partnership to build a local UAV test site (hereinafter referred to as a “special zone for UAV tests”). As part of efforts to consolidate the partnership, the signees all agreed to work together to win the open bid, led by the transportation ministry which is now running a competition to form authorized UAV test zones.

Once the city is selected, Daejeon will be entitled to nonpermanently lift the current industry regulation, which requires authorization, certification, safety assessment before testing, which means easier access to product simulation for many UAV makers in Korea.
City mayor said “We’ll take part in and win the bid this year to make the city a mecca for drone industry in Korea.”
