According to Yonhap News,

Daejeon-si held a session to 'report the start of commissioning of a plan establishment to renovate Daejeon Industrial Complex' at City Hall meeting room on September 9.

The city commissioned this planning to a specialized agency to transform the 50-year-old Daejeon Industrial Complex into an eco-friendly and high-tech industrial complex through digital innovation by 2027.

The city plans to analyze the current status of the Daejeon Industrial Complex and develop strategies and logic for the renovation project.

The 'Industrial Complex renovation project' is to create jobs by intensively supporting the industrial complex, which had been aged due to a change in industrial environment such as downturn of traditional manufacturing industries and the 4th industrial revolution, to transform it into innovation base for regional industries.

Based on the outcomes from this commissioned service, to be completed in July next year, the city plans to establish an innovation plan, aiming to secure industrial competitiveness of Daejeon Industrial Complex, create jobs, and improve the working environment.

The city presented three ways to push forward: easing the restrictions of industrial category of tenant companies, improving land use efficiency, such as private/public development in the Gapcheon-incorporated area, and technology advancement.

Daejeon Industrial Complex, which is currently home to 392 companies (4,308 employees), was selected as a pilot project district for reorganization of an aging industrial complex in 2009, and was designated and announced as a district for regeneration plan and regeneration project 2012.

Since then, Daejeon City has been working hard to improve environment of the industrial complex by establishing a regeneration implementation plan in 2016, but with no significant progress.
