“It is necessary to foster talent to secure semiconductor technology differentiated from the metropolitan area.”

CEO of Intekplus said at the roundtable for local semiconductor companies and experts held at MKS, a semiconductor component manufacturer in Yongsan-dong, Yuseong-gu, presided over by Daejeon's mayor on July 7.

About 10 people including semiconductor companies and experts attended the roundtable, discussing measures to create local semiconductor technology ecosystem, etc.

CEO of Dandan said, "It is essential to reflect the test bed, which is difficult for each company to introduce by itself, to verify the performance of parts." CEO of Comizoa said, "As local companies are specialized in the post-process such as packaging, we need measures to foster the companies engaged in the post-process.

Daejeon's mayor, who presided over the meeting, said, "We will review an idea to create a semiconductor industrial complex with a scale of 1 million pyeong." "We will build a test bed to evaluate key parts for semiconductor processing equipment, by benchmarking the case of IMEC, Europe's largest semiconductor research institute co-founded by Belgium, the Netherlands, and France in 1984".

He continued, "We will discuss with local universities on how to groom talent, such as opening departments related to materials, parts, and equipment required by local companies," adding, "we will also establish housing and transportation infrastructure to induce the young talent equipped with expertise in the semiconductor area to Daejeon."

In step with the government's policy to foster the semiconductor industry as a next-generation growth engine, the city plans to strengthen industrial competitiveness by creating a semiconductor technology ecosystem in Daejeon.
