According to Yonhap News,

Winning the fierce competition with China and Japan, Daejeon-si succeeded in hosting the World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (WCPEC), the world's largest international event in the photovoltaic field.

Daejeon-si announced on July 14 that it was selected as the host city of the 9th WCPEC scheduled for 2026.

WCPEC is an event held every four years by combining the world's three major photovoltaic academic conferences held in the US, Europe, and Asia, and is regarded as the largest event in the renewable energy field. In Asia, Daejeon became the 3rd city to host the event after Osaka and Kyoto in Japan.

Daejeon-si, which entered the bid with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Tourism Organization, Daejeon Tourism Organization, and Korea Photovoltaic Society, competed with China (Beijing) and Japan (Chiba).

Daejeon won the title of host city after the second round voting against Chiba, Japan.

In addition to the strong will of the government and Daejeon-si to attract the event, it received high marks from the judges for its tour programs which utilize Daejeon's strength as a science city, convention and hotel infrastructure, and capability as a host of international events.

Daejeon-si expects that a total of 4,500 people, including 2,000 from 40 countries and 2,500 domestic participants, to visit Daejeon during the WCPEC General Assembly, which is expected to lead to economic riffle effect of KRW 20.5 billion.

WCPEC will make official announcement on the next host city at the 8th General Assembly to be held in Milan, Italy on September 26-30.

Daejeon-si plans to actively promote the Daejeon General Assembly by attending the official announcement event.
