According to Yonhap News,

Daejeon city recently signed MOUs with 10 institutes, including government-funded research centers, reaching agreement to join force in advancing quantum technology to foster a sound ecosystem of the quantum industry.

Daejeon and government-funded research centers agreed to jointly work in an array of tasks to strengthening Korea's quantum industry, such as building supportive infrastructures, training professionals, attracting investment, nurturing companies, and implementing national projects.

Quantum technology is an emerging field of physics and engineering that enables innovation.

Daejeon is regarded as a city with a big potential in this technology, in that the city is home to 47% of domestic quantum experts.

It plans to establish a Korean version of Canada's 'Quantum Valley' located in Waterloo. It is an exemplary case of a quantum technology ecosystem fostered based on the collaboration between quantum-related firms and research labs.

Daejeon Metropolitan Council also pitched in for developing the quantum industry, an important driving force for future growth, by coming up with related regulations.

Last month, assemblyman Kim Young-sam put forth an ordinance on promotion and support for the quantum industry that states the Mayor of Daejon should draw up a comprehensive plan to foster the industry in every 5 years.

According to the proposed ordinance, the 5-year comprehensive plan will include specific strategies, action plans and supportive measures for R&D and commercialization. With the plan, Daejeon city should seek for cooperation with other countries to expand investment in talent and facilities. They also can form a deliberative committee.

"I see Daejeon is a city of a substantial potential to become a center of the national quantum industry." he said.
