Daejeon to push for a hydrogen fuel cell power plant construction project

The project to push for a win-win tyle local fuel cell power plant in the Pyeongchon Industrial Complex in Seo-gu, Daejeon received a green light.

On October 11, the Daejeon Metropolitan Government announce that it received permission from the Electricity Commission of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) for the hydrogen fuel cell power generation project.

Moving forward, the project will be proceeded through a special purpose corporation (SPC), planned to be established by SK Gas, LS Electric, and CNCITY Energy.

The power plant, which will be built by investing about KRW 300 billion, is expected to generate 320,000MW of electricity available to about 100,000 households every year.

The city plans to raise the power independence rate from the current 1.8% to 5.1% after completing the construction of the power plant,.

An official from Daejeon-si said, "Fuel cell power plant is a source of an eco-friendly energy compared to thermal power plant," adding, "we will ensure this project become a model case for local mutual growth."
