According to Yonhap News,
On May 6, Daejeon-si announced that it will establish and implement a comprehensive plan for fostering the advanced secondary battery industry, a key sector in the future energy industry.
The city plans to create new markets for secondary batteries by leveraging its excellent research and development (R&D) infrastructure and strengths in manufacturing and inspection equipment, developing demand-driven technologies linked to strategic industries.
To achieve this, the city will invest KRW 88 billion by 2030, focusing on four major strategies and 12 tasks: securing and commercializing innovative technologies specialized for strategic industries, nurturing global small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and expanding the value chain, building a foundation for leading technologies, and creating an innovation ecosystem.
The city will foster anchor (leading) companies and expand the industrial ecosystem through programs such as scale-up initiatives for the entire production cycle, support for transition companies, and the establishment of a global industry-academic-research cooperation network.
To gradually build a foundation for leading technologies, the city plans to develop a performance uation and manufacturing platform for micro-solid-state battery, using semiconductor procedures, as well as an industrial development hub center, in conjunction with national funding projects, starting from next year through 2030.
Daejeon will also develop an "Energy Valley" connected to solar power, hydrogen, and heavy ion accelerators, and establish an advanced secondary battery industry cluster to pioneer new markets.
By 2030, Daejeon aims to establish a secondary battery industry ecosystem, with a goal of listing 18 leading companies, reaching total sales of KRW 2.3586 trillion from major companies, creating 6,191 jobs, and nurturing 1,390 specialized professionals.
A city official stated, "Although the secondary battery industry is currently in a stagnation period, it will become a key industry in the future. We are committed to nurturing anchor companies that will drive the regional economy and executing these tasks with all our efforts."
