According to Yonhap News,

Daejeon-si announced that it will invest KRW 250 billion this year to implement 80 projects related to the promotion of science and technology.

On May 15, the city held the "Daejeon Science and Technology Committee" at the City Hall to finalize the 2025 implementation plan for the Daejeon Science and Technology Promotion Master Plan (2023–2027).

The implementation plan consists of four main strategies: ▲ Fostering core strategic industries (ABCDQR) ▲ Creating a science and technology industry ecosystem ▲ Establishing a global science and technology innovation hub ▲ Cultivating science industry talent and promoting scientific culture. It includes 16 key projects and 80 specific initiatives.

This year, the city plans to invest a total of KRW 250 billion, including KRW 145.2 billion from the national government.

The city will focus its investment, worth KRW 40.5 billion, in "6 strategic industries (ABCDQR)" — referring to Aerospace (A), Bio (B), Chips (C), Defense (D), Quantum (Q), and Robotics (R).

KRW 50.6 billion will be allocated to building the science industry ecosystem, and KRW 39.2 billion will go towards creating a global science industry convergence and innovation hub.

The largest portion of the budget will be invested in "cultivating science industry talent and promoting scientific culture," with a total of KRW 119.7 billion. This will strengthen sustainable growth foundations through the establishment of local talent development governance, science programs for youth, and the expansion of scientific culture.

Last year, the city invested KRW 310.7 billion, including KRW 116.2 billion from the national government, to push forward various initiatives, including the selection of the Bio Specialization Zone in a national competition, the launch of satellite development for the Daejeon SAT project, the groundbreaking of Merck's Asia-Pacific Bioprocessing Production Center, and the selection for the preliminary feasibility study for the Nano Semiconductor National Industrial Complex.

A Daejeon official stated, "We will rapidly implement policies to ensure that science and technology can lead regional development by enhancing the linkage between scientific and technological promotion and local industries, centered around the Daedeok Innopolis."
