Daejeon to strengthen collaboration with Montgomery County, a key partner for entering the North American market
Daejeon-si will strengthen its collaboration with Montgomery County, USA, a key partner for entering the North American market.
While on a North American tour, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo met with Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich in Boston on June 15 (local time) and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation in global trade.
The MOU aims to expand exchanges among startups, companies, research institutions, and industry experts, and to lay the foundation for mutual growth between the two cities by revitalizing the regional innovation ecosystem.
To support the expansion of Daejeon's promising local businesses into North America, the city established the "Daejeon Global Business Center" in Montgomery County and Seattle last year, focusing on promoting international cooperation in the economic and scientific sectors.
Montgomery County, Daejeon’s sister city, is home to some of the world’s leading bio-health research institutions, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), making it one of the top three biotech clusters in the United States.
Following the MOU signing, Daejeon-si held a dinner meeting with local companies participating in the '2025 BIO USA' to listen to their challenges and discuss support measures.
A total of 19 Daejeon-based companies, including Bioneer, Alteogen, Orum Therapeutics, Peptron, Intocell, IVIM Technology, and Curocell, are participating in the '2025 BIO USA'.
At the meeting, County Executive Marc Elrich held a Q&A session on North American market entry strategies and U.S. corporate support policies for companies interested in expanding into overseas markets.
Daejeon's Mayor Lee stated, "Daejeon was selected last year as a specialized bio cluster for national high-tech strategic industries around the Daedeok Innopolis. In May, Daejeon was also chosen as a Global Innovation Special Zone for Advanced Bio-Manufacturing. We will continue to advance these projects to establish Daejeon as a leading biotech cluster in Korea."
