Daejeon TP signed an MOU with EOS to make Daejeon a hub of 3D printing
On June 25, Daejeon Technopark (Daejeon TP) announced that together with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) and Hanbat National University, it signed a four-party MOU on June 23rd (local time) in Munich, Germany, with EOS AMCM, a global leader in the metal 3D (three-dimensional) printing field, to collaborate on global 3D printing technology.
This business agreement is part of the "Materials, Parts, and Equipment 3D Printing Joint Manufacturing Center Establishment Project in Defense and Space" promoted by the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation. The project aims to establish 3D printing infrastructure, foster technological cooperation, and develop talent within Daejeon Industrial Complex and the related industrial complexes.
Daejeon-si was selected for this project in April last year and secured KRW 15 billion in government funding. The plan is to establish a 3D printing materials and components supply base with a total project cost of KRW 25 billion by 2027.
Under the agreement, the four institutions will cooperate to: Co-host the "AM (Additive Manufacturing) Expert Day Workshop"; Provide technical support and education to strengthen operational capabilities for large-scale metal PBF (Powder Bed Fusion) additive manufacturing
Last month, Josef Weilhammer, Managing Director (MD) of EOS, visited Daejeon TP, toured the 3D printing equipment room, and discussed technology collaboration and the business agreement with EOS.
According to Daejeon TP, EOS Group holds a market share of approximately 15% in the global metal additive manufacturing market and is regarded as the world's leading company. EOS AMCM, an independent entity under EOS Group, specializes in developing customized high-performance metal 3D printing platforms.
Daejeon TP stated, "We hope this agreement will not only enhance the manufacturing capabilities of local companies but also serve as a turning point for Daejeon to grow into a hub for the 3D printing industry."
