According to Newsis,
Daejeon-si announced that a delegation led by the city's vice mayor, currently on a visit to Singapore, explored global cooperation models and sought ways for bio companies to expand internationally.
Singapore has grown into Asia’s leading biotech hub, leveraging the government’s strategic investments, a research and development system centered around A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research), and its unique structure where universities, businesses, and the government are closely connected.
During the visit, the delegation visited Merck Singapore, SINERGY ( Singapore Consortium for Synthetic Biology), and SIFBI (A*STAR's Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation) to discuss collaboration in areas such as joint research in synthetic biology, technology validation, workforce development, and support for startups.
The city plans to establish networks to support companies participating in Daejeon’s Advanced Bio-Manufacturing Global Innovation Zone, including creating testbeds for validation, joint research on bio materials, and exchanging information on food safety regulations and certifications both domestically and internationally.
Daejeon's vice mayor stated, “Singapore is a successful example of a bio ecosystem where research institutions, businesses, and the government are closely connected. By combining Daejeon’s research and development capabilities with Singapore’s synthetic biology commercialization model, we will strive to turn Daejeon into a global leader in bio innovation.”
