Daejeon-si signed an MOU on establishment of domestic supply chain for defense and space semiconductors
On November 18, Daejeon-si announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Hanwha Systems, and Daejeon Technopark (TP) to establish a domestic supply chain for defense and space semiconductors.
The goal of this agreement is to develop defense and space semiconductors and build an ecosystem necessary for national security.
The collaborating institutions will work together on joint research and development for semiconductor localization and performance enhancement, the establishment of public fabs for process development and manufacturing, and the training of specialized personnel.
These organizations plan to strengthen national competitiveness by relying on domestic supply of semiconductors needed in the emerging space industry, rather than depending on foreign sources.
