According to Newsis,
[Daejeon = Newsis] Reporter Kwak Sang-hoon — Daejeon Metropolitan City announced on the 28th that it officially commenced operations of the Yuseong Multi-modal Terminal following an opening ceremony.
Located within the Yuseong Multi-modal Transfer Center site near Guam Station (Daejeon Metro Line 1), the new public terminal was constructed with a total investment of KRW 44.9 billion. The facility covers a land area of 15,000 square meters with a total floor area of 3,858 square meters.
Designed to accommodate a maximum of 6,500 daily users, the terminal serves as a comprehensive transport hub, facilitating seamless transfers between the urban railway, city buses, and taxis.
With the opening, the terminal will operate over 300 daily services across 32 routes, connecting major cities including Seoul, Cheongju, and Gongju via intercity, direct, and express buses. This development is expected to significantly improve the intercity bus infrastructure in the Yuseong district, which had previously been fragmented.
The existing Yuseong intercity bus stop building is scheduled to be renovated until April, after which it will be used as a facility providing amenities and support services for terminal users.
The Yuseong Multi-modal Terminal project, originally initiated in 2010 through a private sector open bidding process, faced long-term delays due to declining business feasibility and passenger demand. In response, Daejeon City shifted its development strategy in 2023 to a public terminal model. By investing municipal finances to construct a passenger-centered facility, the city completed construction last December and has now commenced full operations.
A key feature of the new terminal is its design, which consolidates boarding, alighting, and transfer functions to simplify passenger flow. This layout minimizes walking distances and waiting times, ensuring safer and more convenient access for the elderly and those with limited mobility.
The terminal will be jointly operated by the Daejeon Transportation Corporation and private terminal operators. This collaboration aims to establish a stable operating system that combines public service values with professional expertise, ensuring high-quality service for users and sustainable facility management.
Furthermore, the area surrounding the terminal includes secured land for support facilities (17,000 ㎡) and public offices (7,000 ㎡). Future development plans include the creation of convention centers, office spaces, and the relocation of public institutions. These initiatives are anticipated to revitalize the surrounding commercial district and generate significant economic ripple effects for the region.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo stated, "The opening of the Yuseong Multi-modal Terminal completes a public transport-centered transfer system, greatly enhancing mobility for our citizens." He added, "Through improvements in the surrounding road systems and traffic operation management, we are committed to establishing this terminal as the key transportation gateway for the northwestern region."
