(Daejeon = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Jun-ho – Dawn of the 19th, the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) announced that it has secured a contract for Project Management Consultancy (PMC) and maintenance advisory services for the 'Introduction of 440 Railcars' project driven by the Moroccan government.

Under the contract, Korail will oversee the management, supervision, and maintenance consultation for the project introducing 440 units of Moroccan electric multiple units (EMUs with a speed class of 160 km/h) scheduled for operation starting in 2029.

Funded as a state project by the Moroccan government, the contract is valued at approximately KRW 9 billion with a project duration spanning 38 months.

Building upon its long-standing experience in operating and maintaining railway vehicles, Korail plans to render practical, technology-centered consultation.

The PMC project will be executed by directly dispatching Korail's skilled technical personnel to the local site. They will comprehensively manage all phases of the project excluding actual manufacturing—including design review, production quality management, factory exit inspection, test runs, and final acceptance.

Furthermore, Korail agreed to support the reinforcement of technical capabilities of local executives and staff by inviting Moroccan National Railways (ONCF) employees to South Korea for training programs.

Kim Tae-seung, CEO of Korail, stated, "This is a meaningful achievement to pass down South Korea's railway operational know-how to Morocco, the only country operating high-speed railways in Africa." The official added, "Taking this as a stepping stone, we will pioneer new markets across North Africa and the Middle East."
