Daegu to foster future vehicle parts industry with KRW 20 bln investment

Daegu announced on June 11 that it had been selected for 'Call for Application for a project to foster e-Drive System (e-DS) key parts industry' commissioned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).

It will go ahead with the project for three years starting from this year, with national budget of KRW 14 billion and local budget of KRW 6 billion.

e-DS parts including motor, inverter, and reducer are key to Electric Vehicle Driving System

This project aims to support development of e-DS key parts, establish communication and cooperation system between companies in pursuit of advancement of e-DS industry, and foster professionals.

Korea Automotive Technology Institute (Katech) leads the project, which will be jointly carried out by Keimyung University, Daegu Catholic University, and Yeungnam University College.

An official said, "We will lay the foundation for transition from internal combustion engine-based car industry towards future car industry by inducing conversion of business and supporting technology advancement, thereby fostering the parts industry for electric vehicle driving system."
