Daegu-si signed an MOU on investment and cooperation to revitalize the ABB industry ecosystem in Daegu Suseong Alpha City with SK C&C, SK REITs Management and ATTO Research on December 4.

SK C&C is Korea's leading digital solution company with annual sales of KRW 2 trillion (as of 2022) for its IT service supply businesses including artificial intelligence, cloud, big data, and blockchain. It plans to establish an AI data center (AIDC) in Suseong Alpha City in partnership with SK REITs Management and ATTO Research.

The AI Data Center (AIDC) will be built and operated entirely based on private capital. A total of KRW 800 billion will be invested in building the AI Data Center, with 40 ㎿ of power in total, 9,917 square meters of site (3,000 pyeong) and 29,700 square meters (9,000 pyeong) of gross floor area.

Under the MOU, SK C&C will oversee the overall construction and operation of the AIDC and actively participate in various projects to support local companies' transition to AI-based cloud.

SK REITs Management, an asset management company, is responsible for financing the construction of AIDC, while ATTO Research is responsible for discovering and carrying out various joint research projects and businesses, as well as providing support services for concept design, establishment, and operation of AIDC.

The attraction of the AIDC is expected to revitalize the local data industry, expanding and creating new business opportunities, and play a pivotal role in the success of the preliminary feasibility project for the creation a 'National Digital Innovation Zone', which is being jointly planned and promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Daegu Metropolitan City.

Daegu-si plans to develop this MOU to become a representative model for digital win-win growth of local companies based on cooperation with large corporations.

To this end, the city plans to establish and operate AI R&D centers, start-up support, and AI education programs using business innovation resources of SK C&C, and cooperating for the creation of a digital innovation ecosystem in which a virtuous cycle is built between R&D, startups and venture development, and talent training.
