According to Yonhap News,

The Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) will cooperate with Daegu-si, which aims to become a city specializing in urban air mobility (UAM), in the pursuit of localizing major UAM parts.

They are also planning to establish the first UAM parts certification support center in Korea.

Daegu-si signed an MOU on the "creation of a Korean-style UAM industrial ecosystem, including localization of UAM propellants," with the presence of Daegu's mayor and KAI CEO at the City Hall on January 18.

Daegu-si and KAI will first jointly develop technologies with local anchor companies with the aim of localizing electric propellants such as motors, which are major parts of UAM.

By doing so, they plan to create a domestic industrial ecosystem capable of mass-producing UAM aircraft.

In addition, they will jointly discover government research projects related to UAM.

The "UAM Certification Support Center" will provide a systematic certification support for UAM parts that are developed domestically.

Daegu-si expected this MOU to serve as an opportunity for local companies to expand their business scope to UAM-related industries and for Daegu to establish itself as a UAM-specialized city.

The city has been pushing for the introduction of a UAM that connects Daegu's central city and the new airport within 20 minutes in time for the opening of Daegu Gyeongbuk New Airport, scheduled for 2029.
