According to Yonhap News,

On December 30, Daegu-si announced that it will re-create Dongseong-ro into a complex cultural space that combines culture, festivals, and shopping spaces to revitalize the city center and help local commercial districts.

As one of the Dongseong-ro Renaissance Projects, Daegu-si and Jung-gu plan to invest KRW 9.5 billion, including state funds, by 2026 to create a space for street performance and a cultural street square in the 900m section between the old Daewoo Building and the old central police station.

Street performance-specialized spaces will be built at two entry points to Dongseong-ro, and the old Daegu Department Store to CGV Hanil section will be transformed into a cultural street square equipped with unique landscape facilities and cultural event support facilities.

The old Daegu Department Store building, which remains vacant, will be used as a place to showcase exterior wall images (media facades) at night, and "outdoor advertisement specific areas" will be designated to install various types of advertisements to attract visitors' attention.

In addition, night lighting will be installed in alleys that connect Jungang-daero and Dongseong-ro, where major transportation bases such as bus stops and subway stations are located.

Daegu's Mayor said, "With this urban spatial structure reorganization project, Dongseong-ro will be transformed into a space where citizens and tourists are willing to re-visit."
