According to Yonhap News,
On January 28, Daegu-si announced that it plans to actively invest in infrastructure development and other efforts to foster the ABB (Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Blockchain) industries, which are regarded as future growth sectors.
Daegu's first step will be to bid for the establishment of the National AI Computing Center in order to position the region as a hub for the AI industry.
The AI Computing Center is a facility that will be built with a total investment of KRW 2 trillion from both the government and private sector by 2030.
Daegu-si expects that if it succeeds in attracting the National AI Computing Center, following the already confirmed plans for an AI data center in the Suseong Alpha City and the construction of an ABB Global Campus at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), the city will secure its position as a leading center for the AI industry.
In addition, Daegu-si plans to support the introduction of AI autonomous manufacturing technology across local manufacturing processes and establish a collaborative system involving universities, research institutes, public organizations, and companies to drive the AI transformation (AX) across key industries.
Daegu will also create and operate a "data safe zone" in the Suseong Alpha City to address the imbalance of data concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area and foster data-specialized companies.
Daegu's official said that "We will further strengthen the competitiveness of local companies through AI-specialized industries. Based on the expansion of AI infrastructure, we will actively promote the development of the region's ABB industries."
