According to Yonhap News,
On February 26, Daegu-si announced that the city was selected as a recipient of the '2025 Blockchain Convergence Town Project' by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency, following an announcement to local governments nationwide.
Accordingly, Daegu-si plans to invest KRW 17.8 billion in national and city funds by 2028, focusing on the discovery and expansion of citizen-oriented blockchain services, the development of public blockchain services, and supporting investment consulting, investment, and financing for blockchain companies.
To this end, Daegu-si also has signed memorandums of understanding with two organizations, including the Korea Internet & Security Agency and the Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency.
Previously, Daegu had developed a blockchain informatization strategy to foster the growth of blockchain companies and create a blockchain ecosystem. The city has been moving forward with projects such as building a Daegu-based blockchain mainnet (Daegu Chain) and opening the Daegu Blockchain Technology Innovation Support Center.
A city official stated, "Blockchain is a secure and reliable technology applied to various digital new industries," and added, "We will strengthen local companies' blockchain technology development capabilities and work towards making Daegu a safe and integrated blockchain city."
