According to Yonhap News,
On March 12, Daejeon-si announced that it has been selected for the 'Demand-Specific Support Program for Opportunity Development Special Zones' by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE).
As a result, Daegu will invest KRW 750 million (KRW 500 million in national funds and KRW 250 million in city funds) to provide customized training, such as on-the-job AI training, for 300 employees from 18 companies that have confirmed investments in three areas designated as opportunity development special zones: Suseong Alpha City, Daegu National Industrial Complex, and Kumho Waterpolis.
The Kyungpook National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, the organizing institution for the training, plans to conduct a detailed demand survey of the 18 companies by the end of next month and then begin recruiting and selecting trainees.
Opportunity development special zones refer to areas where regulatory exceptions, tax and financial support, and improvements in workers' living conditions are provided as a package to attract large-scale investments from companies in non-metropolitan areas and some parts of the metropolitan area.
In Daegu, approximately 2.7 million square meters of three districts, including Suseong Alpha City, were designated as opportunity development special zones in June 2024.
Eighteen promising companies in future industries such as AI, semiconductors, mobility, and robotics, including SK C&C, plan to invest KRW 4.4166 trillion by 2027.
