Daegu-si to recruit foreign talent for future new industries such as robotics and mobility
On August 1, Daegu-si announced that it will actively recruit foreign talent for future new industries with the official launch of the "Regional Visa Pilot Project".
The Regional Visa Pilot Project is designed as a regional immigration policy, where local governments create visa requirements tailored to the characteristics of their regional industries, and the Ministry of Justice reviews and issues specialized personnel (E-7-1) visas for foreigners.
Unlike the previous "Regional Specialized Visa Program," which was limited to certain areas facing population decline, the Regional Visa Project covers all of Daegu, allowing local governments to directly recruit overseas talent.
With this initiative, the city plans to directly recommend foreign experts in the five key industries of Daegu's future economy and aims to attract 100 skilled workers, starting from today and continuing until December 31, next year.
The regional visa designed by the city targets five sectors, aligning with the characteristics of Daegu's future industries: ▲ Data (ABB) ▲ Robot Engineering (Robotics) ▲ Electronic Engineering (Semiconductors) ▲ Mechanical Engineering (Future Mobility) ▲ Life Sciences (Healthcare).
The educational qualification requirement has been expanded to include those with an associate degree, allowing vocational university students to apply for the visa and work. The experience requirement has also been relaxed from 5 years to 3 years. Furthermore, the mandatory local employment criteria has been relaxed to reduce the burden on businesses.
A city official stated, "This project will serve as an important opportunity to proactively secure foreign talent necessary for the five key industries that will lead Daegu's future."
