(DAEGU = Yonhap News) — Exports from Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province both increased by around 20 percent last month.
According to the Daegu Regional Customs Office on August 18, Daegu's exports last month reached USD 950 million, a 20.0 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Exports of chemical products (46.9 percent) and machinery and precision instruments (35.7 percent) were particularly prominent, while exports of electrical and electronic products (8.4 percent) and automobiles and auto parts (16.3 percent) also grew.
By destination, exports increased to most regions, including Latin America (49.0 percent), China (24.7 percent), the United States (12.9 percent), and the European Union (0.6 percent), whereas exports to Southeast Asia declined (-2.2 percent).
Gyeongbuk Province's exports last month reached USD 3.86 billion, representing a 19.6 percent increase year-on-year.
Electrical and electronic products (40.8 percent) led the export growth, accompanied by increases in steel products (12.4 percent), chemical products (16.2 percent), and machinery and precision instruments (3.1 percent).
By destination, exports to the United States (41.8 percent), Southeast Asia (14.0 percent), the European Union (41.8 percent), and Japan (36.0 percent) expanded, while exports to China decreased (-9.8 percent).
