According to Yonhap News,

 

Gyeongbuk-do (North Gyeongsang Province), Ulsan, and Daegu submitted the proposal to establish the International Science Business Belt in the regions on April 22nd.

 

The three local governments stressed their advantages as the optimal place of the Science Belt such as the research base for accelerator clusters, the IT industry in Gumi, the textile and machinery parts industries of Daegu, the steel and new material industries of Pohang, and the automobile and shipbuilding industries of Ulsan.

 

Also, they emphasized they have universities including Pohang University of Science and Technology in Pohang, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology and high-quality human resources.

 

In particular, they said global research belts such as Dresden, Germany, Silicon Valley, the U.S., and Sophia Antipolis, France are all located nearby the sea or national borders away from the capital to make sure that researchers can concentrate on their research activities.

 

The local governments explained the KTX Singyeongju Station and Pohang Station are within two hours from the capital area and the Pohang Port has its strengths in the distribution sector.
