About 5.48 million people visited the Daegu Stadium, the Mecca of athletics

Encouraged by the hosting of IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 and designation of the Year of Visit Daegu, a growing number of people visited Daegu Stadium.

Daegu City said on Dec. 29 that the number of people visiting Daegu Stadium and Sports Parks stood at 5,486,313, up 16.7% of 785,082 from 4,701,231 in 2010.

The number of audience visiting the stadium surpassed 5.48 million for the first time since its establishment in 2001.          

If you take a close look at the figure, free visits by audience including kindergarteners account for 82.8% of the total visit with 5,544,313 visitors, followed by event visits for 17.1% with 938,645 and Daegu tour-related visit for 0.1% with 3,355.

The number of people visiting Daegu during the IAAF World Championships amounted to 486,932, accounting for 51.9% of the total audience.

The number of foreign visitors recorded 99,604 accounting for 1.8% of the total visit, an increase of a whopping 108.7% from 47,735 in 2010.

Park jong-ryul, manager of Daegu Stadium, said that "Aggressive promotion, maintenance of various facilities and additional installment of high-tech devices are credited with the increasing audience" adding that "We will develop the stadium into the must-visit tourist attraction."
