Daegu Mayor Kim Beom-il was awarded for showing innovative leadership at the Korea CEO Leadership Award, organized by JOINS Magazine and sponsored by Korea Joongang Daily and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.
He was recognized for contribution to creating future growth engines and enhancing the city's competitiveness by establishing the High-Tech Medical Cluster even amid the global economic slowdown.
Mayor Kim also proved excellent leadership by attracting investment worth more than 1 trillion won in the global financial crisis.
"Daegu's achievement is credited with our aggressive efforts to stimulate the regional economy with our citizens," said Mayor Kim. "We will maintain our efforts to ensure that several large-scale projects could bring about visible economic effects."
