According to Yonhap News,

(DAEGU = Yonhap News) The city of Daegu announced on February 4 that it will construct a new overpass, transfer center, deluxe hotels and studio apartments near Dongdaegu Station, aiming to transform the area into the region’s best business district.

The construction of the station’s overpass and expansion work of the station square are run by the city’s construction department and are now about 28 percent completed.

The city will construct the overpass and expand the nearby six-lane roads to 10-lane roads in an effort to solve the traffic congestion.

Once the Seongdong overpass on the east side of the station is constructed, it will be able to disperse traffic and dramatically improve accessibility to Daegu International Airport and Dongdaegu Interchange.

The city also cooperates with Shinsegae to build a new transfer center. The construction is expected to commence this month and will be completed in the second half of 2016.

The center will comprise cultural and shopping convention facilities as well as a theme park.

The city expects that the new transfer center will provide convenience to its visitors by merging the old and dispersed bus terminals and generate more than 18,000 of employment opportunities.

Also, construction works of hotels and studio apartments on the opposite side of the transfer center are currently underway. With the hotels and studio apartments, the transfer center is expected to change the nearby environment.

“As KTX, express buses, intercity buses and urban railways will be mutually connected and the new transfer center will become a major shopping and cultural infrastructure, the surroundings of Dongdaegu Station will become the center of the city’s central business, transportation and cultural district,” said a city official.
