(DAEGU = Yonhap News) Exports of the city of Daegu have topped USD 600 million for five consecutive years.

The city posted a total of KRW 1.215 billion in exports until February, up by 24.2 percent compared to the same period in 2013.

The city’s export growth rate also topped the nation during the same period.

Imports were USD 561 million, down by 1 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. As a result, the city recorded a trade surplus of USD 654 million.

Last month, the city recorded USD 613 million in exports, up by 32.4 percent from February. Exports have topped USD 600 million for five consecutive years.

Looking at exports by industry, the machinery industry recorded USD 580 million, electronic & electric industry recorded USD 248 million, fiber industry USD 194 million, chemistry industry USD 110 million and steel industry USD 86 million in exports.

Exports to main trading partners are as follows: The United States (USD 156 million), Japan (USD 83 million), Vietnam (USD 71 million), Poland (USD 52 million) Hong Kong (USD 47 million) and Mexico (USD 410 million).

“The city will support companies to overcome tough economic times and focus on advancing into the global market,” said Kim Bum-il, Mayor of Daegu.
