(DAEGU=Yonhap News)Daegu held a seminar under the theme “High-tech ICT Convergence Creative Economy Revitalization” on July 18 at the Daegu GyeongBuk Design Center, Daegu.

The seminar was to foster the sports industry that combines ICT to develop a new technology that will become a new growth engine of Daegu.

According to the City, Daegu hosted large international events including Seoul 1988 Summer Olympics, 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan and 2011 World Championships in Athletics, which helped to increase the performance of athletes. However, the City needs to adopt the sports events into the sports industry to enhance the industrial values.

The government agreed to invest KRW 274 billion for five years in creating new market that combines ICT and sports industry.

The City will combine the state-of-the-art technology with the sports infrastructure including the Daegu Stadium to increase athletic performance and develop new products and technologies.
