According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Last year, Gwangju Metropolitan City and South Jeolla Province's agro-marine exports reached USD 517 million, a 14 percent increase from the USD 453 million the previous year, according to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT).

Such rate of growth is more than twice that of the country's entire agro-marine exports (6.5%), and is based on the stabilization of the local production of marine products such as laver and seaweed, as well as rise in demand from Japan and the United States.

The popularity of Korean alcoholic beverages (beers) and rise in unit prices of bird feathers have also contributed to the surge in exports.

By destinations, Gwangju and Jeonnam exported a total USD 212 million to Japan, USD 91 million to China, USD 55 million to the United States, USD 45 million to Hong Kong, USD 36 million to Taiwan, and USD 10 million to Vietnam, last year.
