The city of Gwangju have prominent tech companies home and abroad lined up to come to the next generation of the artificial intelligence hub in Korea.

The city signed a business contract to form partnership with Saltlux, the largest portfolio of AI patent applications in Korea. The AI specialist unveiled its plan to build up a big data center near the site under construction to have a national AI tech cluster.

Since its inauguration, Saltlux has gradually scaled up in its size and technological capacity, focusing primarily on machine learning, natural language processing and big data analytics over the past 20 years.

The partnership embodies specific guidelines for R&D database development and HR training to nurture tech specialists. Both parties also agreed to hire 100 new employees this year and 200 more next year.

Saltlux opens Gwangju office this month and makes a separate entity incorporated in the second half of the year 2020. By setting a plan to share its technological and business accomplishments to turn the community thrive, the AI solution provider will further advance learning tool based upon a humongous library of knowledge database (or knowledge base : KB), a collection of visual, audio, text and all types of information they’ve long built up.

Gwangju city has signed a series of MOUs or biz-contracts for investment in the community with National Security Research Institute Gwangju Office, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and TmaxSoft R&D center.

Encored, Inc., a Korean born startup, completed the process to establish AI research center in Gwangju office within 5 months since its singing of investment agreement with the municipal authorities last October in Silicon Valley.
