According to Yonhap News,

The city of Gwangju finds ways to work with Israeli AI business in a bid to further advance smart, artificial intelligence technology.

The Israel's Ambassador to South Korea, Chaim Choshen, was invited to the city and met with the city mayor on Jun. 25. Making the visit, the ambassador presented five AI- powered visual aids, manufactured by Israeli company, OrCam Technologies, the city said. OrCam Technologies was founded in 2010 by Prof. Amnon Shashua, known as the father of vision-based self-driving technology and the very founder and chief technology officer of Mobileye.

The city officials and the Israeli delegate had a discussion over how to exchange technological and human resources between the city and its counterpart, a leading AI hub where global key tech players like Google or Intel are flocking into.

Both also shared thoughts to jointly run a welfare service, using a burgeoning technology extracting audio from visual information, mainly designed to help the disabled A city official said “Taking this opportunity as a chance to gain momentum, we, an IT and manufacturing powerhouse, want to consolidate technological partnership with Israel, home to major players in the high-tech industry. At the same time, we want to benchmark the way to enrich Korea’s venture ecosystem from the world’s famous startup nation. This could prime the pump to form VC funds to match between startups and Israeli investors.
