Farm 8 to set up a new smart vegie-farming facility in Gwangju city

Gwangju city signed an MOU with Gwangsan-gu and Farm 8 on Jan 26. Farm 8 unveiled an investment plan to spend nearly KRW 15 billion on setting up a new manufacturing plant on a 5,800㎡ site (gross area: 4,958㎡) near Gwangsan-gu until the year 2022. The production facility is reported to adopt machine-learning and IoT- based automatic crop yielding system.

The facility also adds a production line where locally grown fresh agro-products are processed to be consumed. Farm 8, which has implemented the latest agro-technology and modern greenhouse practices in the facility since 2004, employing smart farming system which automatically controls temperature, light intensity, humidity and even CO2 levels.

They’ve recently introduced an indoor vertical farmland inside remaining spaces in Seoul subway stations. Farm 8 has scaled business up, focusing more on food processing, selling bagged salad and foods pre-packed for direct sale. The city mayor said “I’d like to express sincere gratitude to the investor, who selected the city as the best possible destination to invest in. I’ll provide all forms of supports to help them contribute a lot to the community economy.”
