According to Yonhap News,

Gwangju-si is to establish a disaster response system using drones in industrial complex and around the rivers.

The city held a ceremony to build a drone demonstration city at City Hall on June 16.

Gwangju-si, Buk-gu, and participating companies shared the background of this project and discussed how to implement it.

In reflection of damage from heavy rainfall in August last year, Gwangju suggested a 'full-cycle disaster safety platform' covering prevention, response, and recovery, which was selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) last month.

The demonstration will take place in high-tech industrial complex in Buk-gu, areas around Yongsan river and Yangdong market (near Gwangju-cheon) which have been designated as special drone zone in February.

181 companies in the high-tech industrial complex were hit by heavy rain last year, amounting to 37.3 billion in damage, while Yangdong market was in danger of Gwangju-cheon flooding.

Aircraft drone will patrol vulnerable areas, while waterproof drones will measure topography.

Various demonstrations are planned until November, including dispatch to disaster-prone areas, video sending, and disaster recovery capabilities.
