As Gwangju Global Motors (GGM), which was born as the nation's first local government-led 'mutually beneficial job creation' model, will start mass-producing new vehicles from September, Gwangju-si is actively supporting Gwangju-type jobs, such as promoting new cars and purchasing vehicles for official use.

According to Gwangju City and others on August 10, Gwangju's mayor said at an executive meeting held in the morning, "GGM will start full-scale production of AX1, Hyundai Motor's new compact SUV, starting from mid-September," asking for active support so that the nation's first local government-led 'mutually beneficial job' model can take root.

The mass production of GGM's new vehicles is an achievement made in 2 years and 8 months since signing investment agreement with Hyundai Motors in January 2019.

Gwangju's mayor said "Gwangju must to its utmost to promote new vehicles to ensure GGM create many jobs and develop into a global automobile consignment production factory."

In this vein, Gwangju and its affiliated public organizations will consider to purchase AX1 as official vehicles once Hyundai Motor sets up and operates exhibition halls in major spots in Gwangju.
