According to Yonhap News,

A test and evaluation center, which will become the basis of Gwangju's battery industry, is to be built.

Gwangju Technopark announced on July 13 that the ' Test and Evaluation Center for Electric Vehicle Battery Module Pack System' was selected for the industrial innovation foundation construction public contest hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).

The consortium in which Gwangju-si, Korea Battery Industry Association, and Honam University participate will invest KRW 5 billion national budget, KRW 7.5 billion local budget by 2026 to build a test and evaluation center in Nam-gu’s urban high-tech industrial complex.

The center will serve as a comprehensive platform for EV battery pack and module design, product development, technical guidance, certification support, and manpower training in a two-stories above the ground building on a site of about 9,200 square meters.

Technopark expects that it will help local companies' research, development and business activities by reducing the certification cost and period, which used to take more than a year, and accumulating performance test data.
