Gwangju-si to support 'Energy Industry Future' Intelligent Power System

Gwangju-si is to support the intelligent power system, which is the next-generation system of supply and demand.

The city said Aug. 21 it has been selected in this April's Smart city planning project held by Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

By 2024, the city will be financed with KRW 6 billion of the government fund along with KRW 2.6 billion of the private fund for the project such as the establishment of an infrastructure for the advanced technology in intelligent power system, as well as technology support, and training talents.

Also, it will tap into 15 kinds of relevant equipment to the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, and Korea Photonics Technology Institute. And, through partnerships with the institutes the city will carry out programs of testing, evaluating and training talents to develop products.

The intelligent power system refers to a technology that connects new renewable energy sources with the power grids of the Korea Electric Power Corporation(KEPCO), and realizes a real-time/two-way production, consumption, and supply of electricity.
